Angels

Angels engraved on tombstones mean spirituality; they guard the tomb and are thought to be messengers between God and man. See also "Cherub"

The angel Micheal bears a sword. The angel Gabriel blows a horn. An angel without a horn or sword is probably a guardian angel. A cherub or "Baby Angel" is most often seen on children's graves. Angelic symbols are: flaming swords, trumpets, sceptres, thuribles, musical instruments, the lily.
