Gracie's Pride - the 43rd Alabama Infantry Volunteers.

By Arthur E. Green. Shippensburg, Penn.: Burd Street Press, 2001. xi, 495 pp. $45.00. ISBN 1-57249-241-4. These men followed Archibald Gracie to war. He was a New York born business man who became a Confederate Brigadier General. His home in New York is still the official Mayor's residence, "The Gracie Mansion". General Gracie was killed by enemy fire at Petersburg and is now buried in the family plot in NYC with no mention of his being a CSA General. The book contains a short history of the regiment. They fought at Kentucky, Chickamauga, Petersburg and finally surrendered with General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House.
