On Wednesday evening last Capt. Dennis
McGuire was killed while loading a barge at Demopolis. Rather death came
Friday from inhaling fumes from an explosion. He was an Irishman by
birth, former resident of New York. |

vicinity of Greensborough received a fatal fall from his horse last

Pickens |
Remains of Gov. Pickens.
When citizens of Greensborough and vicinity learned the remains of
this excellent were on their way from Mobile to be deposited in his
family graveyard at his late residence, they convened for purposes of
making arrangements for their reception and interment. The following
committee was appointed: John Gayle, John Bell, L. A. Stollenwerck, John
A. Stollenwerck, Claudius Jones, James B. Scott, Wm. S. Bolling.
Remains reached this village Thursday evening and were placed in an
apartment in Mr. Dickens large brick building. The committee appointed
following Pall Bearers: Gen. P. May, J. B. Stickney, W. C. Gillespie,
Hugh McCann, J. Marrast, Jon Erwin, William Young, John Malone, Levin
Gayle and J. A. Beal -- Marshalls.
The whole group moved to the Presbyterian Church where Rev. Mr.
Hillhouse delivered the discourse. |

On night of 15th inst. Mr. Sanford Y. Wren
of Sprinfield was accidentally killed by a gunshot wound while pursuing
r-a-way negroes. |

Died -- In this county on 18th inst. Wm. P.
McDowell highly respected member of the Bar. Native of Fayette County,
KY. where his father and a number of relatives still reside. His remains
were interred with Masonic Honors at residence of his brother in the
county. |
