MRS. SALLIE UPCHURCH

The funeral of Mrs. Sallie Upchurch, age 93, was held from the Christian Church at Union last Wednesday afternoon. Dr. R. E. Fulton conducted the funeral.

She is survived by four children, a number of grandchildren, and great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Her husband preceded her twenty years ago. She had been a member of the Christian Church for more than thirty-five years.

Note: Sarah Ann Spencer Upchurch was born Aug. 16, 1845 and died Jan. 31, 1939.

The four children mentioned were: John Upchurch, Mary (Mamie) Sims Coleman, Dora Upchurch Wilson, and Kate Upchurch Wilson. Charlotte Patterson

In Memory of My Grandmother

On Tuesday afternoon Jan. 31, 1939, He who doth all things well, saw fit to call my dear grandmother home to rest, where there will be no more sickness, pain, nor death, but everlasting joy. She had been sick several weeks and all that friends and loved ones could do was done, but all in vain She will be sadly missed by the entire community and all that knew her. She was ninety-three years, five months, and fourteen days old. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, one son, twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of fiends.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday afternoon from the Union Christian Church after which interment was made in the adjoining cemetery by the side of her husband who passed away twenty years ago.
She is gone but not forgotten.

Never will her memory fade.
Loving thoughts will ever linger.
Around the grave where she is laid.
A friend from us is gone.
A voice we loved is still.
A place is vacant in our hearts—that can never be filled.
Now the days are sad and lonely
Without you grandmother dear.
For you always brought me gladness,
With this thought, a word of cheer.
In my heart your mem’ry lingers,
Sweetly, tender, fond and true.

FAMILY REUNION
On August 16th, a host of friends and relatives had a most enjoyable day when Mrs. Sallie Upchurch celebrated her 88th birthday with a Family Reunion at the home of Mr. & Mrs. J. M. Wilson. The family was met by two of her granddaughters Misses Annie Laurie Wilson and Ruth Upchurch. The children present were Mrs. J. M. Wilson, Mrs. Emmett Wilson of Eutaw, Mrs. Jack Coleman of Union, and Mr. John Upchurch of Knoxville. There were 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren present. Besides the family, there were also present, Mr. and Mrs. Perrin Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Gillum and family, Misses Annie M. and Carrie B. Gandy, and Helen Leavelle and Mr. Louis Brodnax. The love and esteem in which she is held was indicated by the lovely gifts. The home was artistically decorated with cut flowers and ferns. At noon, a very bountiful birthday dinner was served to all. About four o’clock all returned to their homes having enjoyed a pleasant day.
