Eutaw, October 13, 1862
The State of Alabama Greene County
‘We the undersigned Citizens of the County & State aforesaid, being above the
age of forty-five or otherwise exempt from M. (military?) duty under and by
virtue of an Act of Congress of the Confederate States of America appeared the
13th October 1862 authorizing the formation of military companies for the
purpose of local defense. Do hereby afsociate ourselves together as a military
company under said act for local defense with the County of Greene and all the
counties adjoining thereto and to be subject to the call of the commanding
officer for that purpose for service during the existence of the war now
pending against the Confederate States by the Northern States. And We and each
of us whose signature is hereunto annexed do, in the presence of Almighty God,
solemnly swear that we & each of us will support the Confederate States of
America, do hereby renounce all allegiances to any foreign power, prince, or
potentate whatever, and will in all things demean ourselves as true and loyal
citizens of the said Confederate States. So help us God.
